Struck by how humanizing this story is: Slain consulate staffer Sean Smith joked: "assuming we don't die tonight."

A friend says Smith sent this online chat message:

“(12:54:09 PM) vile_rat: assuming we don’t die tonight. We saw one of our ‘police’ that guard the compound taking pictures.”
